ATS19581 Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) IC
Allegro’s sensor IC is ideal for transmission applications, including use in electric vehicles
Allegro's ATS19581 is a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) integrated circuit (IC) with an extensive feature set for high levels of flexibility, reliability, and performance in transmission applications, including electric vehicles (EV), where speed or speed and direction information is required using ferromagnetic gear-tooth targets.
The fully integrated gear-tooth sensor offers highly advanced magnetically back-biased GMR technology capable of sensing near or far air gaps. A dedicated pin for diagnostics enables robust design-in based on key functionalities of the IC. Real-time signal integrity monitoring means designers can achieve robust functionality over varied application conditions, achieving higher margin performance. The high performance and design versatility can reduce the number of sensor qualifications, reducing overall system costs.
The ATS19581 can be used as either a speed sensor or a speed and direction sensor, and for automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) or non-ASIL applications. In addition to automotive transmission, other implementations in two-wheeler and industrial applications (especially those experiencing air-gap challenges) may be able to realize savings.
The ATS19581 is provided in a single overmolded lead (Pb) free 3-pin SIP package (ST) with tin leadframe plating. The ST package includes a GMR IC, a magnet, and the EMC circuit, including the bypass capacitor. To maintain the sensor IC lead integrity, there is an additional molded lead-stabilizing bar for robust shipping and ease of assembly.
- GMR technology senses near or far air gaps for optimal design-in flexibility
- Integrated EMC circuit protects against harsh supply line transients eliminating the need for a large bypass capacitor and twisted pair harness
- System compensation for vibration, mechanical shifts, and thermal gradients to ease controller burden and increase signal reliability
- Single-in-line overmolded package reduces tolerance stack of GMR IC, EMC protection, and magnet
- Test pin access for system characterization within the application environment
- Speed or speed and direction output protocol allows a single qualification to cover multiple applications
- IC measures differentially to reject common-mode stray magnetic fields
- Orientation compatible with Hall-effect technology for ease of drop-in replacement in existing design
- Integrated ASIL diagnostics and certified safety design process (optional fault reporting)
