Omega2 Dash Touchscreen Single-Board Computer for IoT
Onion Corporation's Wi-Fi-enabled Linux computer with a built-in touchscreen is aimed at building connected user interfaces
The Omega2 Dash from Onion Corporation is a standalone, Linux-based single-board computer with a built-in touchscreen and Wi-Fi radio. It provides an easy way to build touch-based visual UIs for the IoT that can be internet-connected, connected to other devices, or both. Use it to create touchscreen control panels for other devices or IoT systems or to act as a real-world way to display and interact with online and cloud services. Deploy it in a completed solution or use it to prototype an application.
The 3.2” touchscreen has a 320x240 resolution and supports 16-bit colors. It is controlled through the Linux framebuffer interface, so framerate is not an issue, and there are multiple reliable ways user-space programs can write to the screen.
There are a variety of interface options allowing easy connection to other devices. The 30-pin header exposes I²C, UART, GPIOs, PWM, USB 2.0, and Ethernet, and there are physical ports for USB devices and MicroSD cards. Internet connectivity through Wi-Fi or wired networking allows UIs using online services to pull data from the cloud or create events to trigger online activities. The mature Linux network stack abstracts the complexity of Wi-Fi networking. It allows the Omega2 Dash to simultaneously host its own Wi-Fi access point and connect to existing Wi-Fi networks.
Based on the Omega2S+ IoT System-on-a-Module, the on-board storage of the Omega2 Dash is preloaded with the OpenWRT embedded Linux distro. The Linux OS supports modern programming languages, such as Python, GoLang, Rust, NodeJS, PHP, C, and C++. Follow the available guides to display the command line or images on the touchscreen or run programs that create a touch-based UI both in C and MicroPython.
