Omega2 LTE 4G Cellular and GNSS Enabled Single-Board Computer for IoT

Onion Corporation’s Omega2 LTE brings cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity for IoT applications in a small single-board computer form-factor

Image of Onion Omega2 LTE 4G Cellular and GNSS Enabled Single-Board ComputerThe Omega2 LTE from Onion Corporation brings high-speed cellular connectivity and GNSS positioning to Linux single-board computers. It is designed for developing cellular IoT solutions, enabling use cases not limited by the range of Wi-Fi networks. The Omega2 LTE is ideal for outdoor and remote sensor hub applications and location tracking. Alternatively, users can have the cellular connection be a fallback for locations where Wi-Fi or wired networks are spotty and reliable data transfer is essential. The Omega2 LTE can be used to prototype designs or included and deployed as part of an IoT solution.

The Omega2 LTE comes in two variants: a model compatible with cellular networks in North America and a Global model that supports network bands worldwide. Both Omega2 LTE models are not locked to a specific cellular network provider and will work with any provider if the provider's main band is supported. Simply insert a Nano-SIM in the slot on the bottom of the device and get started.

The onboard LTE Cat 4 modem delivers 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink data rates. The same modem features a high-sensitivity, multi-constellation GNSS receiver, capable of retrieving positioning and accurate time data worldwide, supporting all common positioning systems: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS. Combined with the LTE data connection, it is easy to build applications that report geoposition, an accurate timestamp, and other data to remote servers.

Based on the Omega2S+ IoT system-on-a-module, the Omega2 LTE runs OpenWRT Linux and supports modern programming languages like Python, GoLang, Rust, NodeJS, PHP, C, and C++. It features a flexible Wi-Fi radio with the Linux network stack, abstracting away the complexity of networking and making the switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data seamless to user applications. The 30-pin header exposes I²C, UART, GPIOs, PWM, and Ethernet, making it easy to connect to other devices.

Built with expandability and portability in mind, the Omega2 LTE features a MicroSD slot and support for LiPo batteries. The onboard storage is expandable up to 2 TB with a MicroSD card. Additionally, the onboard battery management allows LiPo batteries to make the Omega2 LTE portable or to act as a back-up power supply in case of a power outage.
