The LT3956 with its internal N-channel power MOSFET offers a very simple and compact LED driving solution for a wide range of LED applications. Its wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 80V and output capability of 80V makes it ideal for applications including automotive, industrial and medical. Its high side current sense enables it to be configured in a boost, buck-mode, buck-boost mode, SEPIC or flyback topology enabling a wide range of high brightness (HB) LED configurations. The LT3956’s internal 3.3A, 84V switch delivers efficiencies as high as 94%, in a boost mode topology, eliminating the need for external heat sinking in most applications while simplifying the solution footprint. The constant-current and constant-voltage capability makes it ideal for driving HB LEDs as accurately and reliability as possible. Similarly, True Color PWM dimming enables dimming ratios as high as 3,000:1, required in applications which are subjected to a wide range of ambient lighting conditions.
